UK marine companies will be exhibiting with increased confidence at this year’s Düsseldorf Boat Show, as the British Marine Federation (BMF) announces that the UK leisure, superyacht and small commercial marine industry is beginning to ...
... show encouraging signs of improvement.
The Dusseldorf Boat Show is the world’s largest show for maritime sport and lifestyle, and the BMF will have nine of its member companies present on its stand –16D20. In addition, a further 26 UK companies have booked their own stands at the event. UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) is supporting the BMF with its activities as part of its continued commitment to helping UK companies win business overseas.
Having faced a difficult trading period throughout 2008/09, the biggest area of growth for the industry was seen in international trade, which was up 13.6% on the previous year to £1.248 billion or 39.5% of the industry’s total revenue – demonstrating how the leisure, superyacht and small commercial sectors of the marine industry plays a significant role in helping Britain increase its exports.
Over the last six months there has also been an uplift on workload and the value of the order book from spring 2009 in the domestic and overseas market; with those reporting an increased order book value up 14% to 32% and up 9% to 31% respectively.
Rob Stevens, Chief Executive of the British Marine Federation said: “It is encouraging to see that businesses are starting to feel more confident about the future. In particular, the increase in exports is a real vote of confidence in British design, manufacturing and services from customers and businesses around the world. We should be proud of our reputation for excellence.”
Members exhibiting on the BMF stand throughout the Dusseldorf Boat Show include:
- Jersey Harbours
- Cooney Marine International Ltd
- Halyard Ltd

The British Marine Federation will be hosting a special stand-side drinks reception to highlight and celebrate some of the finest marine industry brands that Britain has to offer. The event will take place on Tuesday 26th January at 4pm on stand 16D20.
